Gee, I wonder why this is happening?

A recent Wall Street Journal analysis found that more than 100,000 people left Illinois in 2021, taking with them some $11 billion in AGI, nearly double its 2019 total. For New York it was $24.5 billion, an increase of more than 150 percent from 2019. California, meanwhile, saw its AGI loss ($29 billion) more than triple since 2019.

Taxpayers giving up on the Prairie State and the Empire State made about $35,000 more per year than new arrivals. For Florida, the data are even more stark. The average income for a new arrival to the Sunshine State was roughly $150,000—more than double those leaving.

Related:

In 2020, 32,000 more people left San Francisco than moved into the city, and the income of those who cut out was nearly $8 billion more than those who came. That only compounded a problem the city was already experiencing. The year prior, San Francisco saw 39,000 more people depart than arrive, representing a net loss of $6.9 billion in salary. That means the city saw $15 billion dollars of income leave in a two year span.

I'm sure politics have to do with some of the decision to move

BUT

Lets move to Florida or Texas where you pay NO STATE TAX
Lets move to Florida or Texas where we can sell our 1,200 sq foot home in Cali for 1.5 million dollars and buy a million dollar 3,500 sq foot home in Florida
Why are we living in this highly taxed expensive state when we NOW work from home and dont have to go to an office?

Yes 39k people left San Fran which comprises just a tad less of 7 billion in salary. Maybe this is b/c Silicon Valley companies are moving to Austin? A blue area in a red state?

But keep thinking its ONLY about politics.

What the hell are you even talking about?

Tax rates are political. And, being fed up with the crappy governance of Democrats is also political.

I thought liberals thought high taxes were patriotic and loved paying taxes?

Gee, it is almost as if liberals are liars or something.

You appear to be unable to read.

Which political party advocates high taxes and which one advocates low taxes?

Yes, tax rates are political. The fact that you would dispute this is hilarious.

Here are several examples of Democrats saying paying taxes is patriotic.

Can you grasp this yet, simpleton?

I'm really not dealing with the sharpest tool in the shed here, am I

Ok, lets start over

You had copied and pasted articles and said "gee, i wonder why this is happening?". You were being sarcastic but the question to you is "why is this happening"?

Why do i feel like you are just 8 short years away from a community college degree?

The tax rates, set by Democrats, are very high.

That is a political thing, which you laughably disputed.

Why it is happening is quite clear, yet you are struggling.

Gee, I wonder why that is?

Anyway, the richest person in Illinois moved his company to Florida because taxes are so high and Democrats are terrible at governing.

Ken Griffin, the richest Illinoisan, is taking his family, his billions of dollars and his companies and leaving Chicago.

In April, Griffin expanded on the crime issue in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “If people aren’t safe here, they’re not going to live here,” he said. “I’ve had multiple colleagues mugged at gunpoint. I’ve had a colleague stabbed on the way to work. Countless issues of burglary. I mean, that’s a really difficult backdrop with which to draw talent to your city from.”

Griffin has assailed Gov. J.B. Pritzker for having no strategy to deal with the crime wave.

Wow. A triple reply!! I love it!!

You do realize that Griffin said "taxes WERENT part of our decision to come to Florida", correct?

But wait, you just said it did?

So who do i believe? A guy who has made 29 billion dollars or a high school dropout with the reading comprehension of a wet sock?

This is absolutely brutal.

Goodbye, Minnesota

Even in the face of a massive $17 billion surplus, the Minnesota Legislature just raised my sales tax and gas tax, created a new deliveries tax and even flirted with raising my income tax. Minnesota already has the sixth-highest income tax rate in the country at 9.85%. Contrast that with Florida, which has no state income tax.

Because of high crime, the downtown Minneapolis restaurants I used to enjoy are closing early or permanently. The Basilica Block Party is gone, and you couldn't pay me to attend the new Taste of Minnesota July 4th block party on Nicollet Mall after last year's July 4th mass shooting and private fireworks anarchy.

Democratic Strongholds Are Seeing Their Tax Revenue Plummet

Under Democratic governor Gavin Newsom, California has turned a $100 billion budget surplus into a $32 billion deficit, Bloomberg reported Friday, forcing the state to trim its "lofty climate change program, delay funding, and increase internal borrowing." In this year alone, the once-Golden State has seen its tax revenue crater by nearly 25 percent as it hemorrhages wealthy residents to lower-taxed states.

New York, which under Democratic governor Kathy Hochul has the highest tax burden in the country, saw a similar revenue drop of almost 20 percent. Both California and New York last year saw their populations shrink by about 294,000 residents, Bloomberg reported.

Florida under DeSantis and Texas under Gov. Greg Abbott now have record-breaking budget surpluses of $21.8 billion and $33 billion, respectively.
